Buffalo's winter

Buffalo's winter is definitely crazier than I expected. Suddenly, there was this downpour of snow, strong wind blowing... Luckily school has ended, otherwise I will cry my way to school everyday.

This photo was taken from my apartment's window. See the lampposts, they were actually shaking when I took the pic.

The whole place has been looking this gloomy for 2 days.

On my way to lunch... Where's the beautiful sun?

The whole carpark was covered with snow.

And the snowball fight shall begin.

This is a tough job. And the only exercise we have.

I realized there was a mini storm after my speech contest, so I had to stay indoors till I feel safe enough to walk home.

After the mini storm went away, we went outside to play!

Erm, the mini storm came back and nearly blew me away.

I got this tumble from Starbucks thinking that I can keep my drink warm and nice in this terrible cold. It failed me. But at least it looks pretty.

School's out

I am done with my undergraduate studies. But I can't indulge myself in shopping trips, facial visits and whatever fun that comes to my mind yet. Because Buffalo is so different from Singapore where everywhere is accessible by public transport. And since we thought our stay here is a mere 4 months, getting our own car is a hassle. Imagine the buying and selling... That's a heap of trouble for me. The boyfriend always says Buffalo is Malacca.

Anyway, I will be visiting New York City in 9 days time, and then back to the little red dot. Thus I have decided to make full use of this 9 days to experience the life of the boyfriend. He seems so contented in his own world. So what is the life of the boyfriend like, what is the attraction? Eat, surf net, play games, sleep, eat, surf net, play games, sleep, eat, surf net...... Eeee I don't like it.

So I cook, eat, cook and eat... This is what I like.

Tomato pot stuffed with portabello fried rice and mozzarella cheese.

Thyme chicken sticks.

Teriyaki drumlets.

Brussels sprouts with pork wrapped onions.

The other dishes I have made without mummy by my side:

Onion bagel ham sandwich with big lettuce leaf.
Very healthy.

Colorful fried rice.

Whole wheat sandwich with cereal as snacks.

Sausages on fettuccine and garlic bread.

Canto noodles stir fry teriyaki chicken with bacons.

Kebab with spiced rice.

Pepperoni pizza.

Meatballs spagetti.

Basil rainbow rotini.

Macaroni with corndog.

Teriyaki salmon (by Kevin) with olive tossed spaghetti (by me).

Crispy fish fillet (by Kevin) with marinara spaghetti (by me).

Although my culinary skills are so so, what I'm really after is the process of cooking. I love the moments where I have to plan what shape the onion pieces should be, what to cook first, how long I should cook it. Of course if the dishes turn out tasty, I will feel good too.

Toronto, the city closer to home.

Toronto, I love Toronto. The largest city in Canada makes me feel at home. Fashion district, Chinatown... Enough said, let the photos do the talking.

Can you see the CN Tower? Yea we're reaching!
Come follow me...

Who wants Mac's when we're in Chinatown!?

Suckling pig behind us.

I love Toronto!

The Original Pancake House

The trio are hungry for food again. It's a Saturday afternoon, so we can afford to travel further for something new. The boyfriend picked pancakes and so... The Original Pancake House, here we come!

A cosy-looking place just right for us to hide from the strong and cold wind.

The menu.

Other than pancakes, they serve waffles, sandwiches, omelets , crepes and ice cream too.

Our maple syrup was placed on our table shortly after we placed our orders, 2.55pm.

Waiting for our food, we were cold and hungry...

Look at the clock, it says 3.25pm...
"SO WHERE IS MY WAFFLE!?"

Finally at 3.40pm, our orders arrived. This is seafood omelet with pancakes. The fluffy omelet was made with 3 eggs. The texture was very close to sponge cake, as you can imagine 1st few bites were "Mmm so good..." but you will eventually get sick of it. The pancakes were nicer than MacDonald's.

Raspberry waffle. Sweet, way to sweet even for a sweet-tooth like me. I will never go for this again, even if free.

Oven-baked apple pancake. It's not burnt, it's the cinnamon glaze. Again, sweet, too sweet. I suggest that The Original Pancake House put a warning on the menu so that first-timers will be mentally prepared for the sugar rush.

I learned a lesson: No high sugar content food when hungry. The stomach and brain doesn't welcome the sugars. It leaves the rest of the day 'unbalance'.

Time to hit the books =(

Rainy day makes studying rather impossible...

Ultimate Warrior... Advanced Merry X'mas

X'mas is exactly 2 months from now. But I have a X'mas present ready for my dumb dumb brother. Got it on Ebay for USD20+. Now, since I will be spending X'mas in New York City (busy enjoying myself), I doubt I will remember to wish all dear to me a very Merry X'mas. I know it is wayyy to early, but just in case I forget... MERRY X'MAS EVERYONE!

Here's the Ultimate Warrior. Hope this is the figurine that dumb dumb wants.

If Ultimate Warrior is a beast, does it make me a beauty? Muahaha...

Buffalo is getting cold

The weather is pretty messed up in Buffalo. When I first arrived in mid-August, it was so hot and humid. Well, I guess that's what summers are like.

A month later, the temperature simply fluctuates and really, I have no idea how to dress up for school. I was always checking the weather forecast, and looking out of my window. I was told to wear 'layers', just like Kueh Lapis. So that if the windy, chilly afternoon suddenly turns hot and humid, I can take off a 'layer' rather than bake myself under my thick jacket.

8th October night, the significant night. There was wind just like any other nights but then again, it wasn't much the same as other nights. The wind blows at me with a message, "IT'S GETTING COLD!' The message sent shivers down my spine, and I was both excited and a little scared. I was excited about my soon-to-come encounter with snow! I was scare that I wouldn't be able to handle the coldness... HeCk! I thought, just make the best out of whatever comes to me.

I took a few pictures of what I have been doing during these few days where the temperature has been staying at around 12 degrees C.

I was about to prepare dinner when I realized that 6 raw eggs at home had FROZE! Hot expands, cold contracts. The egg shells contracts faster than the raw eggs, and cracked. Thus I was able to witness this disgust.

I do not have a liking for coffee, unless it's those ice-blended ones from Starbucks or Coffeebeans. But miraculously, I got myself a big cup of ice coffee from MacDonald's. It was windy and 11 degrees C, I have no idea what I was thinking... Will my fate turn out to be like the 6 eggs? OMG.

This is where I wait for the shuttle bus to school. It's a 7 min walk from home.

The Boyfriend just had a great haircut. Don't you think so?

It is 11 degrees C and when the wind blows, it feels like below 10 degrees C. But I couldn't resist the soft serve ice cream... They're from Hershey's. Thank you The Boyfriend for the treat!

I love to enjoy my ice cream slowly, so eating them in the cold is the best for me.

When the temperature drops, it means time to load on the FATS!
